The transition from a commuter school to a residential campus is transformative to an institution. In 2008, Florida Atlantic endeavored to elevate its perception and accommodate enrollment growth by adding on-campus housing.  The greatest challenge of this undertaking was economic feasibility. Balfour Beatty worked with FAU to analyze options and ultimately entered into a public-private partnership to construct the community in the most economically feasible manner. This approach allowed the project to proceed quickly and resulted in an up-front ground lease payment to the University that  enabled much needed utility improvements to the campus.

Students at FAU now enjoy Innovation Village Apartments, a living-learning hub bristling with student activity. The community is comprised of two towers of two and four-bedroom apartments with kitchen, common living and dining room, and two baths. Community amenities enhance the student experience and provide collaborative learning and recreation spaces including a swimming pool, fitness center, computer lab, meeting rooms, and abundant green space.
